Sovremienny (also known as Project 956) is the name of a class of Soviet, and later Russian, missile destroyers that entered service from 1980. In total, 19 units of this type were created. The total length of this type of ship is 156 meters, the overall width is 17.3 meters, and the full displacement is about 7,900 tons. The maximum speed is 32 knots. The on-board armament of the earliest ships of this class included, among others: 2 quadruple SS-N-22 rocket launchers, two SA-N-7 rocket launchers, two twin 130 mm cannons and 4 sets of 30 mm AK-630. Units of this type can be based on one on-board helicopter, eg Ka-27 Helix.
