The VW Beetle was developed in the 1930s. "Volkswagen" or "the people's vehicle" was an efficient and cost-effective car that surpassed the vehicle's original estimate. In 1972, the Beetle was named the "Production World Champion" exceeding the Ford T which until that point was the most produced vehicle made. The Golf model of the Volkswagen is the most recognizable vehicle produced. The Beetle continues to be a popular vehicle in automobile history and has been featured in art and film.
